Reboot the System: Restart your Oracle Linux 8 server.
Interrupt GRUB Menu: When the GRUB boot loader menu appears, press the e key to edit the selected kernel entry
Edit the Kernel Line:• Use the arrow keys to find the line starting with linux or linux$appropriate_version.
- Go to the end of that long line and add a space followed by rd.break
Boot the System: Press Ctrl + X (or F10) to start the system with the modified parameters
Accessing the Root File System (if using rd.break)
When using rd.break, the system drops you into an emergency prompt before mounting the real root file system read-write. To perform maintenance or reset a password:
- Remount the root file system as read-write:bash
mount -o remount,rw /sysroot
Change root into the sysroot environment:bash
chroot /sysroot
Perform your administrative task (e.g., reset the root password):bash
passwd root
Exit and reboot:bash
